Meet the Artist Paul Seftel -- Paul is Available for Media Interviews and Studio Tours

Paul Seftel's journey as an artist began when he was only 4, thrown out of his first school for the crime of drawing a “lewd picture” of a dog standing up wearing a suit, taking a piss.

Salinas, CA, August 31, 2017 - Seftel has always pursued his own path, finding further study in Denver and learning masterful techniques in creating and applying paint and plaster. PS Project Space in New York, which he opened in 2011, served as a studio, gallery and collaborative project space for a few years.

Seftel has done several artist's residencies around the world, living and working from a few months at a time to a few years in Taos, New Mexico, Denver and Vail, Colorado, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Hawaii and now in Pacific Grove at the American Tin Cannery.

“My work is very much about the physical elements and the textural emotional elements of our lives. The ephemeral motions of the crashing ocean waves to the way fog moves across the water somehow represent our timeless and changing human state to me,” says Seftel while sitting in his studio/workshop at the American Tin Cannery, a former commercial outlet center and one of the few surviving original sardine canneries at the edge of Cannery Row.

When talking to the London-born and raised artist, these elements, and how they organically become part of his work, are never far from any conversation about what he does and who he is.

Yet Seftel isn't only inspired by nature, he's compelled by it. He is aware that he is also a part of this same nature, and as such sees himself as a “co-creator” and “channel” in his artful process. This process doesn't involve just conventional paints and brushes, but investigates the nature of surface, deconstructing traditional fresco formulas and ancient techniques, whilst integrating modern materials and chemistry. The mixtures and solutions are applied with the aid of gravity and his own active painting techniques.

One work could be composed of limestone, iron oxide, copper patina, pigments and polymer on canvas, while another could be cast gypsum, cast mineral stone an crystal. He adds layers and layers of colors, hues and textures that transform and react to each other to create yet another layer.

The bio on his website isn't a recitation of what schools he attended or where his works are displayed, but about his journey as an artist.

“What is discovered is a ‘dynamic process,’ where awareness of internal experience and a connection with the creative forces of the universe is found,” he writes. “Confronting the many conundrums of time and space, the beauty of what we have and what has been lost is texturally explored, revealing patterns and depths in the endless layers of formless form behind the nature of the seen and unseen world.”

For Seftel it's all about the process and he never really knows where it will take him, though for now, the Monterey Peninsula has captured him. Living the dream, the quality of the light, and the energy of earth, ocean and sky meeting on the central coast captures him in both reality and imagination.

Why G Suite is a Good Fit for StartUps

Over 100 million companies start up worldwide every year. According to Forbes magazine, nine out of ten startup companies will fail.

San Jose, CA, August 26, 2017 - Over 100 million companies start up worldwide every year. According to Forbes magazine, nine out of ten startup companies will fail. It is imperative to know what sets the winners and losers apart in order to help business owners stack the odds in their favor. It’s a proven fact that by implementing cost-effective, reliable but scalable IT infrastructure is a key to success on businesses and such programs as Google based G Suite, startups are much more likely to succeed.

“Startups are up against some fierce competition these days,” stated a G Suite partner spokesperson from Netkiller. “The initial decisions startup business owners make will set them up to succeed...or fail. G Suite is one of the best programs for startups for a number of reasons. It is also important to work with an expert in G Suite, such as Netkiller, in order to fully take advantage of what all the program has to offer.”

Over 3 million companies worldwide have chosen G Suite as their mode of conducting business. Even still, many of the companies do not realize all that G Suite application has to offer that can increase the likelihood their business will succeed.

G Suite specializes in connecting people within a company regardless of their location. The cloud driven apps include Drive, Docs, Gmail and Calendar. It excels in collaboration options.

Because so many users are already familiar with Google Docs and Gmail, G Suite is a natural choice for to use for a startup. It offers modern features with a comfortable feel for real-time collaboration and messaging communication. Another plus to using G Suite for a startup is that it is constantly evolving, embracing technological change which is a must for success.

Being cloud based is another advantage to going Google and selecting G Suite. In addition, G Suite works well with the trend towards doing virtual business. And, startups that select G Suite can focus their efforts on more important things than maintaining in-house servers for their email and other hassles as well.

Google is known for being reliable and trustworthy. With over 700 worldwide security professionals, it also has a good reputation for being secure. Those factors are very important to startup companies.

Google is trending toward the recommendation that G Suite be purchased through partners and resellers. Doing so not only offers workplace integration at a discounted fee but also adds value to the organization because of the many perks that come along with working through a partner such as personalized support, app solutions and special training for your business, and additional benefits for what the consumer pays.

Netkiller is a preferred partner of G Suite in the bay area. It was established in 2006. With over ten years as an expert in their field, they are able to assist startups in setting up the all-in-one communication suite, storage and collaboration application. Bunny Sigler Releases Single and Video “Angel Eyes” – Now Available

Renowned, Philly-based R&B singer/songwriter Walter "Bunny" Sigler is excited to announce the lyric video for his latest single titled “Angel Eyes” is now available.

Los Angeles, CA, August 18, 2017 – Renowned, Philly-based R&B singer/songwriter Walter "Bunny" Sigler is excited to announce the lyric video for his latest single titled “Angel Eyes” is now available. The single is also out now on iTunes and all major digital outlets. “Angel Eyes” is the second single from Sigler’s upcoming album ‘Young at Heart’ – an album that bridges the gap between Sigler’s classic R&B sound and the world of jazz.

Angel Eyes” features Sigler’s smooth voice on the Ella Fitgerald- and Frank Sinatra-performed standard, and reveals how diverse of a singer Sigler really is. The classic piano, drums, double bass, and string arrangement lays a lush, but simple foundation for a new, refreshing, yet nostalgic crooning sound from Sigler. Living up to his nickname “Mr. Emotion,” Sigler delivers a heartfelt performance, full of heartache and longing. “Angel Eyes” is now available to purchase digitally from iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play, and is also available for streaming on Spotify.

The song’s video accompaniment is a glance into the past – showcasing the glory days of jazz, the American songbook, and the Rat Pack while featuring Sigler’s silhouette in various scenes throughout. The black-and-white look of the video compliments the song’s melancholic tone and draws viewers in with its vintage style.

For more information and updates about “Angel Eyes” and Bunny Sigler, please visit his website at http://www.BunZMusicAndRecords.com.

Not only is Bunny skilled with the pen, but he is also a world-renowned singer.

Dance Kids 24th Annual Full Length 'Nutcracker: A Monterey Peninsula Tradition’ will Feature, for The First Time, A 39-Member Symphony Orchestra, Playing for its Four December Production Dates at Carmel’s Sunset Center

For the first time in its history, Dance Kids will kick off its Silver Anniversary Celebration Year with ‘Nutcracker: A Monterey Peninsula Tradition’

Carmel, CA, August 17, 2017 — For the first time in its history, Dance Kids will kick off its Silver Anniversary Celebration Year with ‘Nutcracker: A Monterey Peninsula Tradition’ in December at Carmel's Sunset Center, and feature, along with the cast of the ballet, a complete 39-member symphony orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's familiar holiday score.

The 39-member Monterey County Pops!, conducted by Dr. Carl Christensen, will perform in the orchestra pit at Sunset Center with Dance Kids dancers on stage in the annual full-length holiday ballet.

"It is something I've always wanted; a quarter-century dream come true," says Dance Kids founder and artistic director, Carol Richmond. ”This will be a totally different experience for the audience, having a live orchestra perform the music. It is very exciting.”

Monterey County Pops! was founded in 1985 and not only provides to the community free, public pops-and-patriotic concerts on holidays, but is the only orchestra in Monterey County that provides a tuition-free, professional performance experience for disadvantaged students in their own communities.

Their audience has grown to approximately 6,700 and 175 young, underserved performers created six professional-quality performances in collaboration with the orchestra last year.

The performance weekend begins Dec. 8, 2017, with another tradition and a gift to the community; a free 10 a.m. Friday morning show given each year to the school children of the Monterey Peninsula. Dance Kids gifts the 700-seat theater to the underserved youth in the community. There will be a 7 p.m. Friday night show, Gala fundraiser on Saturday night, Dec. 9, 2017, at 5 p.m. and show at 7, and the much-anticipated “Sugar Plum Fairy Champagne and Tea Party” at 12:15 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, followed by the show at 2 p.m.

Tickets will be available starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at www.sunsetcenter.org. Tickets are $49 for adults, $35 for children, $45 for students/military/seniors for performances; $135 for adults and $65 for children for the Gala fundraiser on Dec. 9. Tickets for the Gala only (no performance) are $100. Admission to the “Sugar Plum Fairy Champagne and Tea Party” on Sunday are $95 and $42 per person for a group of 10 or more.

The full-length ballet features over 100 dancers ranging in age from 4 to adult; over 400 costumes and countless numbers of accessories, including headpieces, hats and gloves. This production requires countless hours of volunteer time and elaborate set design featuring local scenes and landmarks. The previous budget of $75,000 has grown to over $125,000 with the inclusion of the symphony. The funds were raised by the Dance Kids Board of Directors and Friends of Dance Kids.

The production is open to all dancers from the community and boasts a spirit of inclusion to all that audition. Auditions and rehearsal begin in September. Andrea Paris Gutierrez, of the Los Angeles Ballet Academy, returns as choreographer, with five local rehearsal directors coordinating the production. Three of the five directors are Royal Academy of Dance, London, certified instructors.

"This is huge," says Richmond. "The symphony component has raised our 'Nutcracker' above and beyond. This isn't a baby step, this is an elegant leap into our celebration of Dance Kids’ Silver Anniversary Year.”

Two years ago, Dance Kids rebranded “Nutcracker; A Monterey Peninsula Tradition” and incorporated the Old Del Monte Hotel as the setting for the first act party scene and introduced famous characters associated with the Peninsula, such as Salvador Dali and John Steinbeck.

Richmond says, "The story line and choreography remain the same yet reflect the tradition of the heyday of the Peninsula in the early ’20s and ’30s."

In the near future, the production will announce the guest artists performing in December's productions.

Set designer for the production is Nicole Bryant-Stephans of Bottega Design, and costumes are by Joanne Phelps.

About Dance Kids
With over 24 years of production history, Dance Kids of Monterey County, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded by Richmond, is proud of its wide range of theatrical experience that support the youth of the Monterey Peninsula. In the early days, productions at the Carmel Ballet Academy included “Nutcracker” and original spring musicals written by Walt de Faria and a full-length spring ballet, produced at Sunset Center.

Dance Kids was known for fun-loving nostalgia surrounding the musical and drew from the community a range of young people and their families committed to theater. As it grew, its little venue could not handle the “Nutcracker” any longer, but continued at the venue for the spring musicals, until those too, outgrew the dance studio. “Nutcracker” moved to Sunset Center in 1995 and has remained there as its home venue except for the years the center was being remodeled.

Dance Kids “Nutcracker” has grown into a premier production eagerly awaited by cast and community. The original vision of Dance Kids of Monterey County has been honored as well as surpassed in the ensuing years. This year is one of pivotal change and growth.

About Monterey County Pops!
Monterey County Pops! was formed in 1985 by musicians and community leaders to expand and enrich musical experiences in Monterey County. In 1990, the orchestra adopted its mission to present free, public pops-and-patriotic concerts on holidays. In 2012, the orchestra renewed its commitment to serve all of Monterey County, not just the Monterey Peninsula.

Since 2012-13 music courses offered in Monterey County Public Schools has declined by more than 26 percent (California Department of Education Data Reporting Office). After-school music/enrichment programs are typically tuition-based and not accessible to low-income students. In the face of dwindling funding for the arts in our schools and rising concern about the inability of low-income students and their families to experience and create professional-quality, live music, in 2014, the Board of Trustees expanded its mission to focus on identifying, engaging, and educating the underserved youth of Monterey County.

In 2017, Monterey County Pops! is the only orchestra in Monterey County that provides a tuition-free, professional performance experience for disadvantaged students in their own communities. We do not impose a creative vision on our partner agencies, but work to enhance and expand programs already in place. Students don't just perform on our stage; they rehearse and play in our professional orchestra.

And, all of our programs are FREE for both for the young performers and for audience members.

We have expanded our program from the Monterey Peninsula into Seaside, Salinas, and King City, and our audience has grown to approximately 6,700. Last year, more than 175 young, underserved performers created six professional-quality performances in collaboration with Monterey County Pops!

In short, Monterey County Pops! is living up to its mission “to be an orchestra dedicated to bringing pops and patriotic music performed by professional musicians to the families and visitors of Monterey County free of charge, and to strategically identify, engage, and educate underserved youth of Monterey County.”

While “The Cure for All Diseases” may be a catchy title, there is much more to it than just that

The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information.

Horton, AL, August 17, 2017 - The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information. You may have not heard of the Rife machine nor of the Lahkovsky MultiWave Oscillator, as well as many other devices because the medical profession and the FDA work hard to keep people from leaqrning about these devices, even to the point of destroying historically significant objects. There is also a continuous stream if lies and misinformation claiming that things such as colloidal silver do not work.

Ever since the first efforts in the 1750's, the first experimenters discovered that even low levels of electricity could kill the newly discovered microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi and resultantly could stop many diseases. The medical industry was extremely against such use because it was not profitable to them. One of these early experimenters was John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. Over a period of time, he set up and operated 3 clinics in London that used mostly electricity combined with natural therapies to treat and heal the poor. The clinics were such a resounding success that the medical authorities tried extensively to shut them down.

Since the time of John Wesley, there has been a stream of electric and electronic products that have been offered to help relieve pain and suffering, as well for fighting disease and illness in the human body. The FDA has stepped in at every turn to suppress the products in favor of expensive and profitable medicines. In the 1870's a product called the Medical Electric Battery was introduced and was available up into the 1930's when the FDA stepped in and shut them down. There were even more advanced products such as the Rife machine that has a long list of successes claimed by users. Not only has the FDA forced these products off of the market, they have suppressed the information about these and even destroyed the original products whenever there have been able to get away with it.

Because of the resistance against this technology, Hulda Clark has been called a quack among other things,

What can be done? First, contact your congressman or congresswoman and make them aware that the FDA is using its power to suppress potentially life-saving technology. There are thousands of signatures and comments at http://paradevices.com/petition_link.html where you can add yours. Lastly, contact the FDA and let them know that this technology needs to be made available for the medical industry to use as well as for private individuals to use on themselves. Currently, this technology is used to kill microbes in water such as in cooling towers and backyard ponds. Similar technology is use to kill microbes in juices and drinks as well as elsewhere in the food industry.

Why should people die just because the medical industry does not want to allow this type of product for the sake of their own profits. The right to live is a basic human right and no one should be denied access to this type of product when life is at risk but that is the very reason that the FDA uses to justify preventing public access to these products. Their rule is that if it can save lives, it must be subjected to the most stringent and expensive regulations and requirements.

Notice: This parasite zapper is currently sold only for the experimental use of killing microbes in water. Any other usage is considered to be off-label and such usage is at the discretion of the user. This is not a Medical device and is not represented as such. The information above is posted only to highlight the potential of such use and to create public awareness.

Collavate DLP Offers Security to Encompass all Levels of G Suite

Affordable Data Loss Prevention Solutions for Google Drive Tools Now Available

San Jose, CA, August 16, 2017 - According to Gartner CISO, a security and risk assessment organization, data loss prevention is a top priority of businesses today. As corporate data has an increasingly high risk of being targeted and breached, Collavate DLP (Data Loss Prevention) has stepped up to offer Google Drive security protection for all Google Drive users.

“With online communication more prevalent than ever and corporate applications being so popular, it is imperative to keep the information within the applications from getting into the wrong hands,” stated a Collavate DLP representative. “Google Drive security has been limited and costly in the past because it was only available for the more expensive G Suite Enterprise. We are pleased to introduce Collavate DLP which can be used with G Suite Basic and G Suite Business as well.”

Google Drive is a popular tool that many businesses use for real-time collaboration and data storage. However, since Drive lacks data loss prevention tools, the breach of information can easily devastate a business.

Until now, Google Drive users have been forced to go with the elite, most expensive collaboration package (G Suite Enterprise) if they wished to invoke Google Drive security measures. Collavate DLP now makes it possible to have data loss prevention services with any Google Drive platform, including G Suite Basic and G Suite Business.

It is estimated that the cost of cybercrime worldwide will top two trillion dollars by 2019, triple the estimated cost reported in 2015. Gartner CISO has identified risks imposed by point-of-sale devices, flash drive, mobile devices, file servers, databases, PCs and virtual servers. Potential access points include wirelines, wireless devices, VPNs and other similar avenues. Source codes, documents of product design, financial documents, customer data and other top-security data are all at risk of being breached.

It is increasingly imperative to have Google Drive security in place because the use of the collaboration tool often includes storage of critical information such as medical records, social security numbers, and credit card information. In many cases, just one breach may cripple a company.  Furthermore, upstanding businesses desire to be trustworthy with their employee and customer information.

Collavate DLP provides security detection in real-time, a key feature. The program also predefines keywords in files in order to monitor activity on viewing trends, another important measure. Rule setting and regular expressions are also defined for even stronger security.

All Google Drive suite editions, even SMB’s, are eligible to take advantage of Collavate DLP. Introducing Collavate DLP to the market serves as a welcome relief to collaborators who are aware of the the importance of cybersecurity.

To find out more about the services offered or to purchase, visit the Collavate DLP website.

Hottest Trend in Interactive Immersive Entertainment, Escape Rooms, Opens on Cannery Row in Monterey

Save the Date for The Escape Room Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting with the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Tuesday, September 26th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Details to Be Announced Soon. Open To the Public

Monterey, CA, August 15, 2017 — Imagine being closed in a room with a half a dozen other people and you're given just one hour to figure out — through clues, codes and suggestions scattered throughout the room — to solve a murder.

Change the scenario to a bank heist, a hostage situation, a kidnapping, a prison, pirate ship, a space station, and much more, and you have one of the hottest trends in interactive or immersive entertainment — Escape Rooms. They're based on escape-the-room video and online games, as if the classic board game “Clue” became a live-action game you play with others in real locations.

And now Monterey has its own version — Exodus Escape Room on Cannery Row — founded by entrepreneur Christina Riddoch of Monterey.

“My granddaughter Andrea and I would play these games online together,” says Riddoch, who opened Exodus Escape Room the first weekend in August. “We were walking around Union Station in Kansas City and we saw a live escape room. We did it and we had so much fun. I said, we need to do this in Monterey, so I started looking into it.”

She contacted an owner of an escape room in Los Angeles to discuss franchising and even attended an escape room conference in Niagara Falls. But it was that first experience with a “live” escape room in Kansas City that sealed it for her.

“I was literally on a high from it for days,” she says. “You feel alive again, it was such an experience, it got us outside of ourselves.”

She talked the escape room operator in L.A. into franchising, found a suitable location above and behind The Whaling Station restaurant on Wave Street in Cannery Row, set up two escape rooms there and opened to capacity crowds — “It was nonstop until 11:30 at night that first night,” she says.

Exodus has two rooms, Sherlock’s Study (recommended for four-10 people) and Masquerade Manor (recommended for four-eight people), with the simple goal of working together with other players, crack codes, solve cyphers and study clues within 60 minutes to escape the room.

In Sherlock's Study, in the midst of a murder investigation, Sherlock Holmes has been kidnapped by the very murderer he was trying to catch. It's up to the players to piece together the evidence he has left behind in his study. Will you be clever enough to step into Sherlock’s shoes and solve the mystery?

In Masquerade Manor, wealthy and famous composer Ludovico Manin is the prime suspect in a recent, high-profile crime. That night, during his annual Masquerade Ball, is the best chance to look for evidence against him. Disguised as guests, players must infiltrate the ball, find proof of Manin’s guilt, and leave without being detected. Can you find the stolen object and escape in time?

The rooms are monitored by video cameras with audio. If players fail to solve the mystery and escape, they can return to take another crack at it for half-price. Riddoch says she hopes to open a third room with a bank heist theme.

“Ours is family-friendly since we're on Cannery Row,” says Riddoch, referring to some of the more gruesome or frightening escape rooms out there. “I think Cannery Row needs this.”

Originating in Japan as Real Escape Game (REG) in 2007, Seattle-based Puzzle Break became the first American-based escape room company in 2013. They are patterned after video or online games such as Zelda, Myst and Crimson Room. There are estimated to be more than 3,000 escape room venues worldwide. There's even a website directory of escape rooms (escaperoomdirectory.com) and people who are fans of the games are called Escape Room Enthusiasts.

"There is a growing consumer demand for social play experiences that are live and unique and can't be repeated," Sam Roberts, assistant director of the Interactive Media and Games division at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, told the Los Angeles Times. Roberts says that immersive entertainment will be the next frontier of gaming — "the future of play spaces," he says.

“It's just so much fun,” says Riddoch. “It's great for team-building, it's fun playing it together with friends. It's such a great experience.”

As Far back in History as the mid 1700's certain Experimenters have known that there are certain things that can kill Microbes and that had value in stopping infections but were being blocked from the public

The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information.

Horton, AL, August 10, 2017 - The Hulda Clark Parasite Zapper has been around for many years, yet, you may have never even heard of it or you may have heard some negative comments from sites that are paid to suppress information.

As far back as the 1750's, the first experimenters discovered that even low levels of electricity could kill the newly discovered microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi and resultingly could stop many diseases. You can read more about this in The Electric Cure.

Since the time of John Wesley, there has been a stream of electric and electronic products that have been offered to help relieve pain and suffering, as well for fighting disease and illness in the human body. The FDA has stepped in at every turn to suppress the products in favor of expensive and profitable medicines. In the 1870's a product called "The Medical Electric Battery" was introduced and was available up into the 1930's when the FDA stepped in and shut them down. There were even more advanced products such as the Rife machine that has a long list of successes claimed by users. Not only has the FDA forced these products off of the market, they have suppressed the information about these and even destroyed the original products whenever there have been able to get away with it.

Another significantly important issue is the suppression of colloidal silver. Silver has been used for centuries to fight unknown causes of death, including microbes such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi. Yet the current medical profession even goes so far as trying to tell people that it does not work and that it can turn you blue ( which is true if you take way too much of the wrong form ). There are many many thousands of users of colloidal silver, yet there are only perhaps 3 or 4 who have actually turned blue. A current improvement to the use of colloidal silver is a product called Nano Silver.

At issue is the current situation in the medical industry where many people are dying every day from infections, both, those aquired in the hospital and those which are established before going to the hospital. These infections are difficult to stop with antibiotics because antibiotics are slow in working and in some cases may even suppress the immune system and cause other problems such as liver failure and kidney failure. Yet from reported experiences, the use of LVPEF ( low voltage pulsed electric fields ) can actually destroy or incapacitate many microbes in minutes or within a few hours of usage. The off-label use of these products can possibly save the lives of your friends, family members, or even your own.

What can be done? First, contact your congerssman or congresswoman and make them aware that the FDA is using its power to suppress potentially life saving technology.

Why should people die just because the medical industry does not want to allow this type of prduct for the sake of their own profits. The right to live is a basic human right and no one should be denied access to this type of product when life is at risk but that is the very reason that the FDA uses to justify preventing public access to these products. Their rule is that if it can save lives, it must be subjected to the most strengent and expensive regulations and requirements.

Notice: These devices are currently sold only for the experimental use of killing microbes in water. Any other usage is considered to be off-label and such usage is at the discretion of the user. This is not a Medical device and is not represented as such. The information above is posted only to highlight the potential of such use and to create public awareness.

Carmel, CA, August 7, 2017 — Renowned African Stone Sculptor Moses Nyanhongo, Carmel Sculptors Terrie Bennett and Steven Whyte Will be doing Live Sculpture Demonstrations and Displaying their New Works at Devendorf Park and their respective Galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea Sunday, August 27th, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m

Nyanhongo is a renowned fine art stone sculptor of Zimbabawe's Shona Sculpture Movement, which has captivated art lovers and collectors the world over. Bennett is a second-generation sculptor who has been sculpting professionally for more than 30 years and exhibits at Bennett Sculpture Carmel. Whyte is an internationally renowned sculptor who specializes in massive monuments, including national memorial monuments to Bob Hope, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Steinbeck.

To celebrate the opening of “Life in Stone,” an exhibition of over 40 new stone sculptures at Gallery Sur in Carmel, the internationally celebrated Nyanhongo will demonstrate his stone-sculpting talents at the free event in Devendorf Park in downtown Carmel. Joining him that day will be Bennett, who will also conduct a live sculpting demonstration in the park.

Just a few blocks away, at his gallery on Dolores between 5th and 6th, Whyte will also be holding a live sculpting demo. Organizers of the event are encouraging people to visit all three demonstrations to see different techniques in use by each artist.

All live demos take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, and are all free and open to the public.

Moses, part of the well-known Nyanhongo family of stone sculptors, will show the various techniques used in their distinctive sculpting process and will share the deep cultural and spiritual traditions expressed in the stone.

Gallery Sur in Carmel is a North American leader in offering original, one-of-a-kind Zimbabwean stone sculpture. The new “Life in Stone” exhibition, opening Aug. 27 at Gallery Sur, includes Shona sculpture ranging from important traditional works by older, revered artists to contemporary, purely abstract works from younger, internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean artists.

“For the past 23 years, I’ve had the pleasure of representing a handful of world-class stone sculptors from Zimbabwe,” says Braden Coolidge, artist representative and curator of the show. “Each year I hand-pick a selection that focuses on the very finest quality by a select few artists. This year’s collection is truly stunning. Clearly the most diverse and dynamic body of work I have ever seen, and in 23 years I’ve seen a lot!”

Shona artists often draw inspiration intuitively from their traditional culture: the mythology, folklore, rituals and beliefs in ancestral spirits that remain strong influences in contemporary Zimbabwean life. The integral roles of women in society are also a significant source of inspiration, often expressing the importance of the mother and child relationship and the respect for the elder’s wisdom. Both the physical and spiritual relationship with nature is another important theme, reflecting the country’s deep rural roots.

Utilizing beautiful stones in various colors, unearthed by the artists from remote mines and quarries, their distinctive sculptures are hand-carved using timeworn techniques, without power tools, maintaining a close relationship to the stone.

The Shona Sculpture Movement, which first began in the 1950s, is named after the largest tribe engaged in stone sculpting in Zimbabwe. The name Zimbabwe is derived from the Shona word meaning “house of stone.” In the late 1960s, the new art movement born in Africa was celebrated at the famed Musee Rodin in Paris and Shona sculptors caught the attention of the art world.

Bernard Matemera, one of the founders of the Shona movement described the process of working with stone like this:

“The spirits are everywhere in the air, in the rocks. A rock is like a fruit — like an orange or a banana. You don’t eat them without peeling them first. It needs to be opened to be eaten. I open the rocks. The fruit is inside.”

Souleye, New Age Hip Hop Rapper, Announces the Eagerly Awaited WILDMAN Album- Releasing June 16, 2017!

On June 16, 2017, thought-provoking hip-hop rapper Souleye will release his long awaited full-length record, Wildman.

Los Angeles, CA, August 04, 2017 - On June 16, 2017, thought-provoking hip-hop rapper Souleye will release his long awaited full-length record, Wildman. The Los Angeles based artist teamed up with house duo Crush Effect, comprising Jess Molloy and Dave Veith, to produce an exceptionally eye-opening hip-hop and electronic fused album.

Wildman represents a mindful and musically engaging listening experience. A socially conscious artist, Souleye delivers an innovative and intense lyric flow that drips with passion. His clever references outline a positive sense of being. In “Follow Your Heart,”the debut single from Wildman, Souleye discusses overcoming hesitations with self-awareness and self-motivation in order to follow your own passions. His rhythmiclinesweave in and out of the down-tempo grooves and musical stylings of Crush Effect. Molloyand Veith blend elements of electronic, R & B,hip hop, and trip-hop to create a psychedelic and atmospheric album that occupies the space between a traditional compilation record and a concept album.

“One of the reasons so many pop and hip hop albums don’t sound cohesive is that those 12 tracks were recorded in 12 different studios with 12 different producers,” says Veith, of Crush Effect. “It was nice to do a full record, to build that sound from song to song.”

In addition to Crush Effect, the album features guest appearances by an array of upcoming and renowned artists, incorporating fresh, melodic hooks into each song. The album includes focus tracks such as, “Snow Angel” (Ft. Alanis Morissette), “Hip Hop Medicine” (Ft. Dustin Tavella), “Classic” (Ft. Chantal Kreviazuk, Chachillie), “Fountain of Youth” (Ft. Wade Morissette) and the upcoming single and title-track, “Wildman” (Ft. Lynx).

Souleye is a one-of-a-kind artist making a statement in the hip hop and electronic scene. He continues to shape his signature style with inspiring and poetic rhymes. His carefully selected collaborators offer creative instrumentation that only enhanceSouleye’s enlightened lyrics.

About John Lewis
John Lewis found his calling as a college student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, though it wasn’t how you might expect a career path to unfold. Flash forward to 2017, as Lewis is now the founder of Lewis Builders, which specializes in designing and building custom homes, doing design/build remodels and “aging-in-place” renovations for retirees, older people and those with health concerns. His firm employs 15 people and moved into new offices in The Barnyard Shopping Center in Carmel.

“We have a passion for helping those who are aging and just want to keep their dignity and independence in their own homes,” says Lewis. “We're trying to educate the public on design/build and aging-in-place.”

Design/build, simply put, is the same company doing the design and construction, from conception to completion, of a custom home or remodel. Design/builders have a better conception of the real costs of a project and how to fit that into a client's budget; it saves significant time in the overall project; and the construction team works collaboratively with the design team.

Aging-in-place is customizing homes with innovative, aesthetically pleasing solutions that alleviate the physical challenges of aging or injury.

It's not just a specialty, Lewis Builders is a credentialed expert in CAPS (Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist). A program of the National Association of Home Builders, the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place.

“When people discover that cost of living in an assisted-living facility can be $10,000 or $20,000 a month, making modifications to their own homes becomes a no-brainer," he says. “The ultimate result is that people are able to live comfortably and safely in their homes into their later years, rather than moving into costly assisted-living facilities.”

Born and raised in Monterey County, the youngest of five children, Lewis’s passion for the creative process of designing and building custom homes and remodels that started with small repair jobs in college, has now become his life's work.
