Bryant & Stratton College Graduates 2,984 Students in 160th Anniversary Year

Bryant & Stratton College announced a college-wide annual graduation total of 2,984 students for the period July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, as it celebrates its 160th anniversary of providing career-focused education.

Buffalo, NY, August 22, 2014 — Bryant & Stratton College announced a college-wide annual graduation total of 2,984 students for the period July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, as it celebrates its 160th anniversary of providing career-focused education. Bryant & Stratton College has graduated more than 28,000 students since 2000, reflecting the strength of its academic programs and the motivation of its students.


“Our students come from many different backgrounds, but they all share a desire to succeed,” said Cindy Susienka, President and CEO of Bryant & Stratton College. “Earning a college degree is one of the most important ways that individuals can prepare themselves for success in their careers and in their lives.”

“As they enter the workforce, these graduates have a significant, positive impact on the local economy,” added Susienka. “The investment in their education is also an investment in the future of their communities. I’d like to congratulate each of our graduates for their achievement and their commitment.”

Today, demand for post-secondary education in jobs has never been higher. It is estimated that by 2025 there will be a gap of more than 20 million unfilled jobs due to the lack of post-secondary degrees.

To meet the demand, Bryant & Stratton College is developing innovative approaches to education that will foster greater student satisfaction and ensure that students have the skills to be successful in a technologically savvy workplace. This includes academic programs in which traditional classroom time is being supplemented with online learning activities.

“The purpose of integrating digital learning into the classroom is to better meet the needs of individual students and offer more personalized instruction,” said Susienka. “The traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to education is no longer valid in today’s dynamic market. We are planning to introduce new technology that helps students learn at their own pace by adapting to the student’s knowledge level and tailoring future lessons to match the student’s progress.”

Susienka said that blending online learning with classroom study takes advantage of the best features of both by reinforcing, complementing, and elaborating on one another. “A blended approach to education enables students to participate fully in the learning process on campus as well as remotely. They are able to learn and study in a fashion that is consistent with today’s workplace,” she added.

Innovation has been the key to the 160-year longevity of Bryant & Stratton College. “The founders of Bryant & Stratton College developed an educational approach that was unique for its time,” said Susienka. “When Bryant & Stratton National Business College was founded in 1854, most people entering the business world had to rely on scarce apprenticeships. The idea of teaching business skills in classrooms and business labs was an innovation that helped build the foundation of American business.

A former New York City wall street executive, Kamen moonlighted as a hip-hop producer and became a multi-instrumentalist at a young age influenced by world music – this led to him creating and collaborating on unique projects with emerging rappers. His new-found fusion of flamenco guitar blended with hip-hop beats was electric and sparked interest in a mass following on Myspace when Kamen first uploaded his experimental side project and debut release, Native Unit.

Though world music and his European travels were a big impact on his signature Urban Flamenco style, Kamen’s teenage years spent in New York City idolizing rock and pop bands of the 1970’s built his repertoire from the musical melting of the city playing shows at the famous Café Wha in Greenwich Village.

With his latest release, Serenades is a current sound that is the perfect amount of dramatic beats and gypsy flamenco guitar that will leave you dancing and feeling good about the music. An eclectic set of fifteen songs, Serenades is the fitting soundtrack to a relaxing night, transferring listeners to a serene Spanish village. Therapist Andrew Walen’s New Book is a Lifeline for Men with Eating Disorders

Man Up to Eating Disorders Shares Author’s Experience to Help Others Struggling with Body Issues

Columbia, MD, August 21, 2014 — Starting early in his childhood, psychotherapist Andrew Walen, LCSW-C, struggled with body image. The first sentence of his recently released new book, Man Up to Eating Disorders, available on Amazon in both paperback and e-book format, captures the shame he felt about his weight and appearance in a few powerful words: “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve struggled with thinking I am ugly and fat.” That shame led Walen to develop serious eating and body image disorders that lasted well into adulthood.


Walen, who founded The Body Image Therapy Center in Columbia, Maryland and practices psychotherapy there, wrote the memoir and self-help book to help other men and boys struggling with eating, exercise and body image disorders understand that they are not alone and that, with support, there is a way to overcome these issues. In the book, he shares his experiences with anorexia, binge eating, exercise bulimia, the underlying origins of these issues in his life and his process of recovery and self-acceptance.

“This book is to help guys come together, create their own tribe, talk recovery in their own language,” explains Walen. “Straight, gay, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, whatever your background – if it’s anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, compulsive exercise, steroid abuse or some combination of any or all of the above; we are all part of the same brotherhood. We are all dealing with the same core issues of belonging, perfectionism, control, identity, independence, and insecurity. The book is for all men looking for some way to break the shame cycle of their disorder and find real connection to themselves and their loved ones.”

In his practice, Walen specializes in working with men with eating disorders, substance abuse, body image issues, anxiety and depression. He has appeared on the Today Show and Baltimore/DC area TV and radio stations, as well as in the New York Times as an expert in the field of eating disorders. In addition, he is the author of numerous articles and leader of workshops on eating disorders, body image disturbance, exercise addiction, and binge eating disorder.

A brilliant range of classical performances will emerge across the canvas of the stages at Sherwood Hall in Salinas and Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The Monterey Symphony announced today that single tickets are now on sale! The Monterey Symphony’s 69th season opens in October 2014, with an exceptional multimedia performance of Disney FANTASIA – Live In Concert. Audiences will watch stunning footage from the animated film, while classical favorites, including excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, and Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, are performed live by the orchestra. The concert also represents a new collaboration for the Monterey Symphony with the Carmel International Film Festival, offering savings on the best in classical music and film through a joint, season subscription package.

As the season continues, the Monterey Symphony transports you to colorful cities in Spain, the United States, and France in November’s City Lights concert. Trombonist Charlie Vernon from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra stars in Chick ‘a’ Bone Checkout, a work inspired by Carl Sandburg’s Chicago poem; the young musicians of Youth Music Monterey County perform side-by-side with the orchestra in Ravel's Alborada del Gracioso, a Spanish work inspired by his Basque heritage; and concludes with Gershwin’s exuberant An American in Paris. The Spring 2015 repertoire blooms with Spanish pianist, Joaquin Achúcarro, in February, and Icelandic violinist, Judith Ingolfsson, in March. The fifth concert in April, Majestic Realm, alludes to the nostalgia felt for our homeland, with what is certain to be a spectacular performance by violist Roberto Díaz, President of the Curtis Institute of Music and former principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
